Afterfall 4.0 - Modern controls update


For the past 2 months I've been hard at work at bringing Afterfall to the modern age. 

The biggest changes are:

-Mouse control 

-8 direction sprite movement and attack

-A new shop in Progress City where you can change the colour of your plasma sword to red, green, yellow or blue

-Various minor bug fixes

This means that all menus can be navigated with mouse movement and by clicking the left and right mouse buttons. It also means that weapons and tools can be used using the mouse. Movement is now set to WASD, but still supports arrow keys.  You can also attack in 8 different directions, instead of the former 4. 

This may not seem like much at first glance, however this has been a major undertaking for me. Mostly as rpg maker needs some major wrestling with to implement modern day player comforts and controls. 

Some of the major hurdles included getting the mouse controls to work with all the scripts already running in Afterfall, while also getting diagonal movement and attack to work for an action battle system that wasn't meant to handle 8 directions. Then also having to draw lots of new diagonal sprites for almost every character, weapon, tool and projectile. 

With that said, I think this will be the last update to Afterfall I will do. (with the exception of small fixes if the need occurs) I've been working on this game since 2015 and it has been a great journey for me, both as a game designer, artist and story teller. 

Now I feel the need to work on something new. Keep your eyes peeled for new projects I'll be working on!
